A 4π measurement of charged products and neutrons from the reaction 86Kr + 197Au at E/A=35 MeV
Creators
Description
A measurement of the 86Kr+197Au reaction products was performed at E/A=35 MeV. Neutron multiplicity mn and charged particle multiplicity Mc were determined with the Rochester SuperBall and with the Washington University MicroBall, respectively. Projectile-like fragments (PLF) and slow reaction products were measured with two Si telescopes and three Si strip detectors, respectively. MicroBall, PLF and strip detectors were enclosed within the SuperBall to select the reaction events according to Mn and Mc. Mn and Mc show different sensitivities to the dissipated energy Edis and, hence, the impact parameter of the reaction. Mc was close to zero for Mn up to about Mn=20. Therefore, Mn is suited to select reaction events according to Edis over the entire range of Edis, whereas Mc can be utilized for this purpose only above certain minimum Edis. Charged-product emission patterns are discussed for different energy dissipation
