α and β spectrometry by semi-conductors. Applications in radioprotection
Description
Semi-conductors have a wide range of applications in spectrometry. It has seemed interesting to study their possibilities, in radioprotection field. Several detectors have been tried in α spectrometry, finally we have chosen the largest detector. The resolution with this diode is not so good but efficiency is bigger. With such a diode we are able to identify α peaks separated by 260 keV on an atmospheric filter. On such a filter we can identify Pu between solid daughters of radon. Otherwise separation of uranium and plutonium peaks is possible. By β spectrometry, it is possible, in spite of deformations of the spectrum produced by the nature of samples usual in radioprotection (atmospheric filters or solutions evaporated), to find the maximum energy of a β emitter when it is alone or when two emitters of very different energies exist in the sample. When we have in a sample three well-known β emitters, it is possible, with an analysis of complex spectrum by a computer program, to measure quantitatively the activity of each component even when one of them has an activity of 1 per cent of the others. Abstract (French)
