Slow-reversible radiation changes in dielectric properties of some nonpolar polymers

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Fiziko-Khimicheskij Inst., Moscow (USSR)

Description

Studied are reversible radiation changes of dielectric properties on nonpolar polymers of different chemical composition and structure: polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene copolymers with propylene polystyrene. Co60 γ-rays were used for irradiation. The presence of one or two (depending on radiation conditions) loss maximums is established in irradiated crystallizing polyethylene, polypropylene and ethylene copolymers with propylene. It is shown that these loss maximums partially disappear after polymer heating at the temperatures of 130-150 deg C and they are conditioned by formation of instable oxygen-containing groups
