Calorimetric study of capillary condensation and application to the texture determination of a mesoporous solid
Description
The author proposes a new porosimetric method using calorimetric measurements. Therefore, a study of the capillary condensate was needed to compare its thermodynamic behaviour with that of the bulk liquid. The study of the heats of capillary condensation is divided in two parts. The first one, theoretical, is a calculation of those heats and entropies of an adsorbed or condensed phase. The second one is grounded on experimental measurements and uses a microcalorimeter associated with an automatic volumetric apparatus especially designed. This study shows that the heat of capillary condensation exceeds the heat of condensation in bulk liquid essentially by a quantity proportional to the area change in the pores. This results allows to obtain, from integral heats measurements, the surface and pore volume of mesoporous solids. The proposed method is also based on the diagram of the isotherm curves of integral heats, showing an hysteresis loop and giving more information about the shape of capillaries and pores distributions. The comparison of various textural data obtained from well known methods with those based on calorimetric measurements settles the validity of such a study

L'auteur propose une nouvelle methode de porometrie a partir de mesures calorimetriques. Pour cela, une etude du condensat capillaire a ete necessaire afin de comparer son comportement thermodynamique a celui d'un liquide libre tridimensionnel. L'etude des chaleurs de condensation capillaire se decompose en deux parties: l'une, theorique, est une formation de ces chaleurs et de l'entropie d'une phase adsorbee ou condensee; l'autre repose sur des mesures experimentales et utilise un microcalorimetre associe a un appareil de volumetrie automatique concu et realise dans ce but. Cette etude montre que la chaleur de condensation capillaire differe essentiellement de la chaleur de liquefaction d'une quantite proportionnelle a la variation de surface de la phase condensee dans les pores. Cette condensation permet d'obtenir, a partir des mesures de chaleurs integrales, la surface et le volume d'un solide mesoporeux. La methode proposee s'appuie egalement sur le trace de la courbe isotherme des chaleurs integrales presentant une boucle d'hysteresis et donnant un complement d'information sur la forme des pores et de distribution de leurs rayons. La comparaison des diverses grandeurs texturales obtenues par des methodes eprouvees avec celles issues de mesures calorimetriques affirme la validite d'une telle etudeFiles
