Iopentol compared to iopamidol in left ventriculography and coronary angiography

  • 1. Western General Hospital, Edinburgh (UK)

Description

Iopentol (Nycomed AS, Oslo, Norway) a new non-ionic monomeric contrast medium was compared to iopamidol (Bracco Industria Chimica, Milan, Italy) in left ventriculography and coronary angiography in a two-group randomized double-blind trial. ECG, heart rate, blood pressure and adverse events were recorded, and an assessment of radiographic efficacy was made. Thirty male and female patients (age 32-74) were included in each group and no patients were excluded after entry. The two groups were well matched and no statistically significant differences in adverse event profile or in cardiovascular parameters were detected between the two groups. Radiographic efficacy was excellent in all cases. Iopentol was found to be well suited for left ventriculography and coronary angiography, and is a good aternative to iopamidol.
