Open cycle MHD power generation : present and future
Description
A brief introduction to MHD and its application for direct energy conversion is given. Basic principles underlying MHD power generation are outlined. Open cycle MHD systems and its components normally used are described. Current status of MHD in the world, particularly in the USSR and Japan as well as in India is reviewed. Research and development efforts undertaken in India in the field of MHD and its applications, under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, are reported. The benefits as well as problems of MHD programmes are outlined. (K.B.)
