Objectivity of CT diagnosis 'cerebral atrophy'

Target-oriented evaluation of 1,100 non-contributory cerebral computer tomogramms obtained from probands of either sex and aged between one and 80 years has underlined the postulation that the intracranial cerebral and liquor space does depend on age. Hence, it is absolutely essential to take that dependence into due consideration when it comes to CT diagnosis of 'cerebral atrophy'. CT-specific determination of cerebral and liquor areas at defined scan planes is described in this context. In practice, any deviation from normal may be deried conveniently, objectively and with good reproducibility from quotient, QF, with reference to be made to previously calculated and graphically represented agerelated normal values, with the view to providing quantitative substantiation for the CT diagnosis of 'cerebral atrophy'.
