Thermal analysis of solid waste storage surveillance facility

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Reactor Safety Div.

Description

The high level radioactive waste from the reprocessing of spent fuel from nuclear reactors are encased in canisters after vitrification and stored in Solid Waste Storage Surveillance Facility. Adequate cooling should be provided over a long period of time to remove the decay heat of the fission products. Natural circulation air cooling is considered for the cooling of radioactive waste canisters. Thermal analysis of the facility has been carried out for various flow patterns and component dimensions.
