Ultrasonic resuspension of collected dust on filter papers for particle size analysis
Description
A method is described which resuspends and aerodynamically analyses aerosols, collected on personal air samples (PAS), from which data can be obtained to predict respiratory tract deposition following occupational exposure. Three uranium oxide dusts were studied and the effect of PAS collection and subsequent regeneration were measured. Some disruption of the size distributions were observed but predictions of deposition in the various respiratory tract regions were of sufficient accuracy to be of assistance in assessment of internal radiation dose. Correction factors have been suggested which further improve the accuracy of the predictions. (author)
