Consistency of scaling with unitarity
Description
Unitary is used to derive the analyticity properties of the cross section for electroproduction and inclusive e⁻+e⁺ annihilation in the Bjorken limit. It is found that both cross sections contain anomalous singularities in the scaling variable ω. The ones in electroproduction are of higher-order electromagnetic strength and thus are negligible. The asymptotic behavior of anomalous singularities in inclusive e⁻+e⁺ annihilation is investigated in the nonperturbative parton model. It is found that they survive asymptotically only if the model contains massless gluon fields, but otherwise are of vanishing strength in the scaling limit.
