The Arms Control crisis: which implications for France and Europe?
Creators
Description
The end of the INF (Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces) Treaty, the uncertainty of a five-year extension of the New-START, and the future NPT review conference are putting the Arms Control crisis back into the international debate. During the 1970's, this Arms Control aimed at maintaining a strategic balance in the nuclear field between the USA and Russia, but the empowerment of China changed the deal. The author recalls the reason given by the Trump administration for the US withdrawal from the INF Treaty, indicates the different countermeasures envisaged by both countries if the INF Treaty comes to its end. The author then discusses how negotiations could progress
