Description

The author discusses the difficulties facing Hungary in the privatization of the nuclear industry. The key is the use of foreign capital. Foreign capital will not be funneled to Hungary if the conditions to utilize them are not favorable, and the conditions are not favorable at the time of the writing. Nuclear power generation is quite important for the Hungarian economy because the structure of the Hungarian electricity industry is such that one third of total is generated by nuclear, one third by fossil, and one third is imported from the Soviet Union. A brief history of Hungarian power industry is given. Hungary's role in the international market is described. The potential impact of political changes in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union is discussed
