Positron annihilation study on the γradiation effect of high impact polystyrene

  • 1. Wuhan Univ., HB (China). Dept. of Physics

Description

Positron lifetimes in high impact polystyrene (HIPS) have been measured as a function of γ-radiation dose in the range of 0-0.4 MGy. It is observed that the average size of free-volume holes generally remains constant, and the hole concentration and the width of the hole radius distribution decrease with the increase in radiation dose. This result has a good correlation with the improvement of mechanical properties of the γ-radiated HIPS
