Adsorption of model crud on ion exchange resin beads

Description

The filtration experiments were carried out with the ion exchange deep beds using model crud (hematite) particles nawith narrow distribution of the diameter. It was found that the filtration efficiency depends markedly on pH of the system and also on the particle diameter. It was considered that the filtration mechanism is not a mere bulk filtration but the electrokinetic interaction between the surfaces of the particle and the resin plays an important role in the filtration process. It was also found that the adsorption capacity decreases rapidly at the early stage as the filtration proceeds. A mathematical model is presented to explain this. (author)
