Conceptual design of 1 MW Thorium Molten-Salt Reactor
Description
Nuclear power plays still an important role for supplying world future energy. However, safety, economy, usability and manufacturability have to be greatly improved from present system. Thorium Molten-Salt Reactor (MSR) is one of candidates but existing designs are not suitable for above requirements. The author developed a new conceptual design of small transportable thorium MSR having 1 MWe (2.2 MWth). Thermal property is governing factor of this reactor because it eliminates use of primary piping. Evaluation results of cooling by compressed He, CO2 and N2 higher than 5 m/s from outer surface of reactor vessel indicates availability of 2.2 MWth. (author)
