Operation for storage disposal and properties of spent ion exchange resin stored through long time in JPDR

Description

Spent ion exchange resin in demineralizer system in JPDR had stored in spent resin storage tank (SRST) since 1963. In this report it is described that the spent resin of about 10 m3 (60Co: 1,020 mCi, 137Cs: 56 mCi) was taken out from the SRST, filled up in the radioactive waste container and disposed at the storage disposal facilities in same site. Also, physical and chemical properties of the spent ion exchange resin stored through long time were examined. As the result, it became clear that there were not very much changes in chemical, but in particular, about 50% of anion resin was broken in pieces. (author)

Abstract (Japanese)

日本原子力班究所の動力試験炉(JPDR)における脱塩器の使用済みイオン交換樹脂(使用済み樹脂と略す)は、1963年から使用済み樹脂貯蔵タンク(SRST)に貯蔵されてきた。JPDR改造後の原子炉運転再開に伴って発生する使用済み樹脂の貯蔵余力が少ないため、貯蔵タンク内の使用済み樹脂をできるだけ取り出し、これを廃棄容器に収納したのち、同敷地内廃棄物処理場の保管廃棄施設に保管廃棄することになった。この樹脂は、いずれは処分のために固化処理などの措置が必要となる。また、原子力発電所における脱塩器の使用済み樹脂についても、現在貯蔵されたままになっている。このため、長期貯蔵された使用済み樹脂の物性値は、固化処理などの検討に際し基礎データを提供すると考えられるので、使用済み樹脂の諸物性の調査を行なった。 (著者)
