Sodium as coolant for the NPPs fast reactor

Description

Experience of sodium application in laboratories, design offices and during operation of commercial and pilot plants with fast reactors is analyzed. It is shown that studies on coolant technology provided a trouble-free operation of commercial NPPs of this type. Main results of investigation into physicochemical regularities of the system of sodium-impurities-structural materials-cover gas are presented, as well as results of development of industrial systems of decontamination and control of coolant and cover gas quality. Problems of sodium fire hazard are analyzed. 13 refs.; 1 tab
