Hydrogen peroxide decomposition on nickel oxide of different origin and the influence of irradiation on this process
Description
The kinetics of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (1.2 M aqueous solution) and its dependence on previous irradiation of the catalyst was studied with nickel oxide of various origin. The reaction order is nearly the first on all samples and the catalytic activity of all samples (except NiO ex oxalate) is proportional to the amount of chemisorbed oxygen. NiO ex oxalate is 500 to 1.000 times more active. Here probably Ni-Ni2+ groups act as active centres, whereas in other samples Ni2+-Ni3+ are active. Catalysts preirradiated with γ-doses below 1.07 x 108 rad do not show changes of catalytic activity. Irradiation in a nuclear reactor produces increases of activity with catalysts only prepared ex carbonate or nitrate. A maximum is found after preirradiation with a dose of 7.76 x 1017 cm-2 slow neutrons, 2.93 x 1017 cm-2 fast neutrons and 2.88 rad γ-rays. (orig./HK)
Abstract (German)
(orig./HK)Additional details
