Description
In these proceedings we survey recent advances in M-theory. After a brief review of the foundations of M-theory we look at how the extended objects, namely M2 and M5 branes, interact with each other. We then describe the new proposals for the low energy dynamics of multiple coincident M2 branes including the theories of Bagger-Lambert (BL) and Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) and generalisations thereof. We finish with a presentation of some emerging conclusions and a discussion of unresolved puzzles. (Abstract Copyright [2009], Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)
