Some thoughts on the WWER family of nuclear reactors

Description

An overview is presented of the reconstruction of WWER-440 and WWER-1000 type, Soviet-made nuclear reactors for enhanced safety in these power plants. The experts' opinion of International Atomic Energy Agency on the safety of these nuclear power plants is discussed, and their recommendations for restructuring these reactors are presented. The problem of waste management and waste disposal is also considered. The most important technological parameters and overal layout of both WWER-440 and WWER-1000 type reactors are reported.
