Significance and indication of radiation therapy for patients with breast cancer

Seventy-nine patients treated with extended radical mastectomy and forty-four with metastatic breast carcinoma in 245 women with breast cancer treated in our hospital for this 14 years were studied in this paper. We studied significance and indication of radiation therapy for patients treated with primary radical mastectomy, and for patients with metastatic breast carcinoma. Thirteen patients had parasternal nodal involvements and four with postoperative radiation therapy achieved survival without recurrence. Seven patients with metastatic breast carcinoma achieved complete remission or partial response and long term survival treated with operative removal and radiation therapy having recurrent sites of operative field, regional lymphnodes and opposite breast, treated with chemoendocrine therapy having bone or lung metastases. At present moment we adapt radiation therapy for the following patients: 1) in primary operation, patients with parasternal nodal involvements 2) in recurrence, patients with local, lymphnodes and opposite mammary recurrence previously treated with operative resection of metastatic sites.
