Dynamic incremental computed tomography without holding respiration in evaluation of mediastinum

Description
Contrast-enhanced dynamic computed tomography(CT) with table incrementation between scans was used to evaluate the mediastinum in 151 patients(158 series). Respiration was not held in these series. Opacification of normal mediastinal vessels permitted accurate detection of hypovascular mediastinal masses. But a few motion artifacts made of respiration had bad effects on evaluation of hilar masses. Scans were over in two through three minutes from the start of the contrast material injection. We recommend that contrast-enhanced dynamic incremental CT without holding respiration be used for mediastinal investigation unless there is a specific contraindication to contrast medium administration.
