Non-destructive methods for detecting and locating defects in power plant cables
Description
This paper describes in some detail a newly developed instrument capable of detecting and locating partial discharges in shielded cables. The problems associated with such a scheme and the solutions adopted are discussed. Preliminary evaluation of another method which could be used in power plants to detect pinholes and other defects in the insulation of unshielded cables is presented. Finally, recommendations are made for combining electrical and materials-oriented diagnostic techniques to effectively monitor power plant cables
