Low-energy excitations of hydrogen and deuterium in LaNi5

Description
The phonon density of states for LaNi5H6 and LaNi5D6 has been measured by neutron inelastic scattering on a powdered sample. Within the host lattice frequencies an additional excitation has been observed at h/2πω = 12 meV; this energy is independent of the mass of the light atom. (author)
