Description

(Th0.7-xU0.3Gdx)O2+y where x= 0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15 were prepared by gel combustion method. The powder prepared was calcined in air. The pellets prepared were sintered in air at 1400℃ for 5 h. The room temperature XRD pattern of calcined specimen showed formation of a complete solid solution for all the compositions. The microstructural examination was carried out by SEM showed inhomogeneous microstructure. The density of the sintered pellets showed the density first increases with Gd content and then decreases. The redox behavior of the samples was studied by Temperature Programmed Reduction (TPR) which showed that the presence of Gd increases the reducibility. (author)
