Magnetic properties of amorphous gadolinium-cobalt films alloyed with molybdenum and silicon

Description

A systematic study of magnetic properties of Gdsub(x)Cosub(1-x) (x approximately 0.18) amorphous films, alloyed with Mo and Si in the 0 to 14 at.% range and containing large domains 3 to 5 μm wide at room temperature is carried out. Films with perpendicular anisotropy are produced by the method of high-frequency spraying. Alloying results in reduction of saturation magnetization, perpendicular anisotropy constant, and increases the temperature of film compensation, which is mainly explained by the Co sublattice magnetization decrease. Low concentrations of Mo and Si decrease the coercive force, while silicon improves considerably the domain structure homogeneity. At the same time thermostability of properties of alloyed films remains quite low
