Doses from tritium in the Czech Republic

Description
Following an overview of tritium discharges and attention paid to this topic by the professional community worldwide, the situation in the Czech Republic is discussed in detail. The two Czech nuclear power plants, Dukovany and Temelin, are the largest tritium producers in the Czech Republic. Effluents from those nuclear installations match the level of other PWRs globally. Annual doses to a typical individual from the general public are about 1μSv from water effluents and about two orders magnitude less from atmospheric emissions. At the Dukovany NPP, a fraction of the tritium discharged to the hydrosphere is returned as cooling water and is ultimately released to the atmosphere. A corrected tritium transport model taking this exposure way into account has been developed. (orig.)
