Automatic data logging system for nuclear counting systems
Description
An automatic data logging system suitable for nuclear physics experiments is described. The system uses integrated circuits for various logic functions and provides a much needed interface between indigenous Hindustan Teleprinter and a counting system. The system converts six digit BCD parallel data from a set of decade counters (ECIL type) to 5-unit CCITT Alphabet No.2 code of the teleprinter. On receipt of the 'print' command, the data is stored and displayed simultaneously. The stored data is multiplexed and encoded to the teleprinter code, which is sequentially scanned converting it serially to operate the electromagnet of the teleprinter. The normal control characters such as 'Letter Shift', etc. are generated by a special character generator on demand. The control logic block controls the full logic operations of the system by giving at appropriate intervals, command signals for the various operations to be sequentially performed. The 'print out' takes about 4 seconds. An additional feature of the system is that the data collection and logging are arranged as independent parallel operations except for a few milliseconds during data transfer when the counters are inhibited.
