Stabilization of sup(99m)Tc-pyrophosphate injection with gentisic acid

  • 1. McMaster Univ., Hamilton, Ontario (Canada). Dept. of Nuclear Medicine

Description

The in vitro oxidation of sup(99m)Tc-labelled bone-scanning agents with the release of free sodium sup(99m)Tc-pertechnetate results in poor skeletal images. Gentisic acid (2,5-dihydroxy-benzoic acid), which has been used as an antioxidant to stabilize HEDP and HMDP kits, has now been shown to be an effective stabilizer for sup(99m)Tc-pyrophosphate injection and does not complete for the sup(99m)Tc-label.
