Description
The spent nuclear fuel is planned to be disposed in copper canisters in bed rock. In these conditions the fastest form of corrosion to penetrate the canister is stress corrosion. In this study the environmental effects on the fracture of pure OFHC-copper have been studied by using a slow strain rate testing (SSRT) method in simulated ground water conditions. Based on the results obtained three different types of environmental effects on the fracture mode of pure OFHC-copper have been observed. (author)
