Thermonuclear microexplosions with a XRAM
Description
An intense relativistic electron beam accelerator for the ignition of thermonuclear microexplosions is proposed which draws its energy from a Xram (inductive Marx generator). The Xram is charged by the current of a fast homopolar generator. The energy pulse is discharged from the Xram into a plasma focus machine. The intense electron beam is generated by the high voltage pulse resulting from the current interruption in the focus by the m = 0 instability. The use of a homopolar machine in conjunction with a Xram type inductive energy storage system should make possible the generation of electron beams with a very large total energy output. (orig.)
