Description

Technological efforts are made to obtain stable Eu3+ emission in the ZnS host. On the basis of photo-ESR measurements it is explained, why only the Eu2+ charge state can be observed. The position of the Eu2+ ground state in the ZnS lattice within the forbidden gap is determined to be 2.25 eV below the conduction band edge. Furthermore, the relative capture rates of electrons and holes by Eu are discussed in relation to those of the Cr+ impurity. (author)
