An overview of the developments related to internal dosimetry of actinides at Trombay

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Over the last four decades, a well formulated internal dosimetry programme using whole body / organ counting and bioassay techniques has been in place for the occupational workers at Trombay. In whole body / organ counting as well as in bioassay, by far, the most formidable problems exist in assessing the internal depositions of actinides (Th, U, Pu/Am) in the human body. Therefore, evaluation of internal dose due to intakes of actinides has formed a thrust area of work. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of the developments in the internal dosimetry of actinides at Trombay. Recent work carried out on the internal dosimetry of actinides, in particular, the biokinetic studies of Th, U and Pu/Am is specifically highlighted
