Preparation of [11C] labelled methyl iodide using aqueous HI adsorbed on alumina

Description
11CH3I was prepared using a HI impregnated Al2O3 column for iodination of 11CH3OH instead of the common HI-reflux system. At optimal condition the conversion yield is 97±2% and the corrosive properties of liquid HI can be avoided. In comparison to other methods, using not HI but other compounds for iodination of 11CH3OH, this system has an advantage of a very simple and fast (few minutes) preparation of the iodinating reagent.
