Climate, the next business of oil companies

Description

Whereas oil companies have above all understood the necessity to do more than displaying opportunistic climate objectives, and are thus starting to define disruptive strategies with carbon neutrality as a main commitment, this article discusses the different levers for action for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in their operations, in their consumed energy, and in the products they produce and sell. In fact, they more easily talk about a reduction of carbon intensity, and more particularly increase their production of bio-kerosene, of renewable gas by methanization, of bio-polymers, or develop plastic recycling. They are also committed in putting an end to flaring. Other fields of development are CO2 storage and reforestation. Actions undertaken by Total in this last domain are briefly overviewed
