A new portable Ge-detector and some data

Description

When the gamma-ray count rate distribution in the office room of the prefabricated house was measured using a portable germanium (Ge) detector, the closer to the window, the greater the gamma-ray effect of radioactive cesium from the surrounding soil was. When the background count rate was measured by applying a simple shield to the detector and the lower limit of detection was examined, the net count rate of Cs-137 became about 1/20 of that without the shield, and the net count rate of Bi-214 and K-40 as natural nuclides became about 1/10 or less and about 1/5, respectively. Under this condition, when a soil sample of about 60 g was measured for 70,000 seconds, the lower limit of detection concentration was about 8 Bq/kg. In situ measurements were performed at l meter height on two open flat lands in Miyagi Prefecture, and the gamma ray dose rate was roughly in agreement with the value obtained by the survey meter. At the northern sites of the prefecture, the contributions of Cs-137 and -134 were larger than those in Sendai City. (A.O.)

Abstract (Japanese)

可搬型ゲルマニウム(Ge)検出器を用いてプレハブ庁舎の測定室内ガンマ線計数率分布を測定したところ,窓に近いほど周辺土壌からの放射性セシウムのガンマ線影響が大きかった。検出器に簡易遮へいを施してバックグラウンド計数率を測定し,検出下限値を調べたところ,遮へい体がない場合に比べてCs-137の正味係数率は約1/20に,天然核種のBi-214とK-40の計数率は各々約1/10以下及び約1/5となった。この条件下で約60gの土壌試料を7万秒測定した場合の検出下限濃度は約8Bq/kgであった。宮城県内2地点の野外の平坦地において1m高さでin situ測定を行ったところ,ガンマ線線量率はサーベイメータによる値と大体一致した。県北の地点ではCs-137とCs-134寄与分が仙台市よりも大きかった。(著者)
