Separation of americium and curium in persulfate-carbonate media

Description

Behaviour of americium and curium in persulfate-carbonate system has been studied. Conditions, under which americium is oxidized to americium (6) and stays in the solution, and curium is isolated in precipitate of low-soluble curium-potassium double sulfate, are found. As a result, 85-95% americium with curium content less than 0.1% remains in the solution. It is suggested that the system should be used to prepare high-purity americium samples on the basis of americium-curium mixture
