Effect of 60Co γ-radiation on fecundity and mating competitivity of long horn beetle, Anoplophora glabripennis

Description
The effect of γ-rays radiation on their fecundity and mating competitiveness of the wild and insectary-reared males of Anoplophora glabripennis was studied in laboratory and in field cage. The results show that, the hatchability was 3.4% when the patrilateral-parent was the irradiated wild long horn beetle of 110 Gy and the hatchability even came to 0 when the parent was the treated reared one by the dose irradiation. The optimum dose rate for the reared and wild long horn beetle males was 1.40 Gy/min, 1.75 Gy/min, respectively. When the ratio of treated male to wild ones was 5:1, the hatch rate was effectively decreased. (authors)
