Radiotoxicity of intracellular Auger emitters

  • 1. Vyskumny Ustav Preventivneho Lekarstva, Bratislava (Czechoslovakia)

Description

A literature review is presented of radiotoxicity of 125I, 77Br, 75Se, 67Ga, and 35S as typical representatives of Auger emitters commonly used in medicine. Radiotoxicity values are compared for these radionuclides and the differences are explained. Referring to the literature data, it is shown that radiosensitive sites in the cell can be determined using Auger emitters, thus also overcoming the difficulty stemming from the fact that the cell nucleus cannot be considered a sensitive target as a whole. Microdosimetry tools should be used in the study of the problem. (L.O.). 2 figs., 4 tabs., 28 refs
