Description

Pulse radiolysis studies of the reduction of 6-hydroxy-5-nitrothymine (TNO2) in neutral and acid aqueous solution have been carried out. Rate constants for the attack on TNO2 by e-sub(aq) and CO2 are presented. Rate constants are presented also for the dissociated analog T(-H+)NO2. Steady state experiments show a pH dependent formation of nitrite ions. The results are interpreted in terms of a reaction scheme involving three protolytic equilibria. (author)
