Description
An advanced walk-in type calibration chamber facility for 222Rn and its progeny measuring device is designed, fabricated and installed at Centre for Advanced Research in Environmental Radioactivity (CARER), Mangalore University as a National Facility, through funding from Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Government of India. The objective of establishing the facility is to serve to the radon research groups of India so that data generated by them on 222Rn and progeny will have traceability to the international primary and secondary standards. Quality control and quality assurance of the data generated on 222Rn and progeny by various research groups through large scale surveys is crucial for accurate assessment of radiation doses to the public. Validations of the indigenously developed passive as well as active radon and progeny measuring devices are another objective of the calibration facility
