Description
Modification of Debye screening and Friedel-type oscillations are found in high-density QED and QCD. At distances r>>1/m/sub el/ and in the ultrarelativistic limit the screened potential of two charges behaves like ∼α2sin(2k/sub F/r)/r4. This may have implications for charmonium suppression in the fragmentation region in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions and for the screening of impurities in white-dwarf stars
