Description
It is concluded that saddle-shaped age spectra appear to be diagnostic of excess 40Ar in igneous rocks and minerals, that minima in the spectra should be interpreted as maximum ages unless there is independent evidence to the contrary, and that the 40Ar/39Ar vs. 39Ar/36Ar isochron diagram does not reliably reveal the crystallization age of samples that contain excess 40Ar.
