On matching an inductive storage and a liner accelerating system on limitation of disruption voltage

Description

In the paper efficiencies of liner acceleration by means of an induction storage operating in the theta and longitudinal pinch regimes have been calculated. Taking into account the limitations upon the maximum power and voltage leads to restrictions upon the liner velocity. From the calculations it can be seen that the power required at the moment of the current reswitching to the liner can be considerably higher than that consumed in the process of compression; it is necessary for the liner stability in compression. From the calculations performed it can be also seen that the time dependence of the power collected from the storage has the following character. At the initial moment the storage power exceeds the compression power several times, then drops to values close to zero and further increases to values of power during compression. In order to fulfil the condition of compression stability it is necessary to have a great power, which is not used during the motion of the liner. Moreover, the insulation of the storage winding must be designed for a voltage exceeding the operating one
