The determination of 0-100 mol% concentration heavy water by infrared spectrophotometry

Description

Analysis of 0-100 mol% D2O concentration with infrared spectrophotometer is based on the fact that heavy water of different concentration has different characteristic spectrum of infrared absorption. The determination wave numbers are 3400 cm-1 for high concentrations of heavy water; 3040 m-1, 1900 cm-1, 1550 cm-1 and 1450 cm-1 for medium concentrations of heavy water; 2500 cm-1 for low concentrations of heavy water. Utilizing heavy water sample of known concentration to draw a standard curve, unknown sample was determined by external reference method. Precision of the method are ±0.02 mol% D2O for high concentration, ±1 mol% D2O for medium concentration, ±0.05 mol% D2O for low concentrations
