Description

The effect of gamma-rays in doses of 5, 10, 15 and 20 krad and of fast neutrons in doses of 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 rad on the sensitivity and mutability of some durum wheat cultivars was studied. A strong inhibiting effect of the mutagenic factor on plant growth and development was observed during the first year following treatment. This effect was directly dependent on the type of agent used, the genotype of the cultivar and the conditions of growing. The induced hereditary changes concerned mainly plant height, ear structure, leaf colour and the presence of a thicker or thinner wax bloom on plant leaves and stems. (author)
