Extracting structural information from Moessbauer isomer shift data in amorphous iron-boron alloys

  • 1. Solid State Physics Laboratory, Materials Science Centre, University of Groningen, Netherlands

Description

The semi-empirical model of Miedema and Van der Woude is used to extract information from Moessbauer isomer shift data about the packing in amorphous Fesub(x)Bsub(1-x) alloys (10at%<x<90at%). At the iron-rich side the samples have an open structure, which changes to a strained one at the boron-rich side. The predicted increased Fe-Fe distance in a-Fe50B50 was verified by energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction. (Auth.)
