Comparison of the pharmacokinetics of brain uptake of Technetium 99m labelled radiopharmaceuticals

Description

Several technetium 99m labelled compounds have recently been proposed for the evaluation of regional cerebral blood flow using SPECT. The kinetics of brain uptake of N-piperidinyl-ethyl-diaminodithiol (NEP-DADT) and its methyl derivative (met-NEP-DADT) and of propylene amine oxime (PnAO) and its derivative (HMPAO) was studied in dogs. The distribution was followed using a rotating gamma camera. A high and rapid uptake was found in brain tissue followed by rapid washout. Clear brain images were obtained. The results suggest that these tracers may be useful for brain imaging in humans

Abstract (French)

Plusieurs nouveaux composes marques au technetium 99m ont ete proposes recemment pour l'estimation du debit cerebral regional par tomographie a emission a photon unique (SPECT). On a compare la cinetique de fixation cerebrale du N-piperidinyl-ethyldiaminodithiol (NEP-DADT) et son derive methyle (met-NEP-DADT) chez le chien avec celle du propylene amine oxime (PnAO) et son derive (HMPAO), a l'aide d'une gamma camera tournante. On a constate une fixation precoce puis une decroissance assez rapide mais permettant aisement la realisation d'images de coupes du cerveau. Le choix du meilleur traceur necessitera d'autres etudes pour preciser lequel reflete plus precisement le debit cerebral regional chez l'homme
