Gamma radiation and buoyancy waves in the atmosphere

Description

Results of measurement of gamma radiation flows in the Earth atmosphere at altitude balloons during 1972-1979 carried out at a mean latitude in the point, where vertical geomagnetic cut-off rigidity R=3.5 GV and in a nearequatorial region - R=17 GV, are discussed. Energy range of gamma quanta under investigation constituted from tens to hundreds MeV. Dependence of gamma quanta flow intensity on an altitude of instrument lifting is given. It is noted that beyond dependence on the altitude gamma quanta flow undergoes considerable variations near a mean value during the time period not exceeding half an hour. Variation amplitude ammounted to 10-20% of mean readings of the instrument. Detected short-period variations are related to inner gravity waves and competely attributed to 5-10% oscillations of atmosphere density at an altitude near 30 km. At that horizontal waves having 5 min period causes the greatest effect
