Description

The paper reviews the development of the Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR), Cern, over the 12 years and 11 months of operation. The early history and some features of its construction are outlined. The accelerator physics at the ISR includes: studies to improve the performance of the facility, accelerator studies associated with technology eg lifetime of bunched beams, and resulting ISR performance.
